DALIA POHA
This is an amazingly quick recipe. We enjoy it as breakfast most of the times. Its quick to make. Its healthy. Its very filling.
What is Dalia?
Dalia is coarsely broken wheat. So Dalia has its cover/outer layer intact. Thus, all the nutrients lying just underneath the cover are intact. This makes Dalia more nutritious and fibre rich than all purpose flour or maida or suji or semolina.
Dalia when cooked in water, becomes soft and ready to eat. I prefer to pressure cook, as it hastens up the process, hence not only consumes less time but, also retains more nutrition.
This is how Dalia looks after cooking.
Dalia Poha Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup dalia
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon butter
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 tablespoon chopped cucumber
- 1 tablespoon chopped capsicum/bell pepper
- 1 tablespoon chopped tomato
- 1/2 tablespoon chopped onion
- 1 tablespoon roasted/fried peanuts
- 1 teaspoon choppped fresh coriander leaves
- 1/2 lemon juice
Instructions
- Saute dalia with butter and salt in a pressure cooker for 1 minute, till nice aroma comes out.
- Pour 1 cup water, close the lid and pressure cook at high flame for 2 minutes.
- Take out the cooked dalia in a bowl and add rest of the ingredients. Mix well.
- Enjoy!
Notes
- Dalia is coarsely broken wheat. As its outer layer/cover is on, it is more nutritious than flour or semolina(suji).
- Any combination and quantity of vegetables can be used.
- Any type of nuts can be added.
- Pomegranate seeds or chopped mangoes or chopped pineapples also add to taste.
- I used some Indian spicy snacks mixture or sev for garnish(optional).

PIZZA PUDDING in a MUG
A very quick and easy recipe. Absolute favourite with kids of all ages and of course grown ups. Each one can make and have their individual mug recipes, that too customized.
I love cooking in Microwave as it is fast and conserves nutrition.
I would here tell you again that my microwave is of 1200W power. So check your microwave and set the time. A simple trick is to microwave on high for 30 seconds each time and check for the “done-ness” of the food. If NOT “done”, then microwave for another 30 seconds.
PIZZA PUDDING in a MUG Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon chopped capsicum/bell pepper
- 1 tablespoon chopped carrots
- 1/2 tablespoon chopped onion
- 1/2 teaspoon chopped garlic
- 1/2 teaspoon dry oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 slices bread
- 1 tablespoon grated cheese
Instructions
- Cut off the edges of the bread slices. Tear the slices into small pieces. Set aside.
- Crack and pour one egg in a microwave safe mug/bowl.
- Add milk, vegetables, herb and salt to egg. Mix well.
- Add the bread to the egg mix and press them down to help them soak up the mix.
- Sprinkle cheese over it.
- Microwave at high or 100% for 2 minutes.
- Enjoy!
Notes
- My microwave is 1200W power setting, so 2 minutes cooking time is OK. Please adjust cooking time as per your microwave power.
- Any combination of vegetables can be used.
- Boiled shredded chicken or pieces of ham can be added.
- I used oregano but, any herb such as pizza herb mix can be used.
- Quantity of cheese can vary as per taste.
